Where We Handle Cases

The Law Office of Richard T. Seymour P.L.L.C. and I focus primarily on employment law cases arising under Federal law. I will handle some claims that are based on State or local law where this adds a significant benefit for our clients. In these instances, we work out an arrangement with a local attorney to work with us. This complies with the State ethical rules.

Cases under Federal law are often handled in Federal courts. Very often, they involve a formal association with out-of-state attorneys. Claims based on State law – such as claims for breach of contract, fraud, wage payment, overtime, negligent supervision, negligent retention, and the like – can be very valuable in some States.

Because State laws and periods of limitations differ from one state to another, a claim that is very valuable in one State may have a much lesser value – or may not even exist – in another State. Federal courts sometimes decide claims under State law, and other times those claims have to be heard in State courts.

We will ONLY provide legal advice about claims based on State or local law outside the District of Columbia, and will ONLY represent people on these claims, if I also arrange an association with an attorney licensed to practice in the State or area in question, and within that State’s ethics rules.
